For equity’s sake, send Hudson County more vaccine doses | Jersey Journal editorial NJ.com 2/6/2021 Jersey Journal Editorial, nj.com © Reena Rose Sibayan | The Jersey Journal/nj.com/TNS North Hudson Community Action Corporation nurse Myrna Pastoriza-Katzner injects Kearny Firefighter Pablo Astorga with the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. If New Jersey is serious about getting COVID vaccines to communities of color, it’s time to start skewing distribution to Hudson County. We all know short supply and overwhelming demand are the biggest roadblocks to getting everyone vaccinated. But even within that context, the numbers for Hudson, when compared to those of other counties in New Jersey, just don’t add up.

Hudson County digs out after massive snowstorm

Hudson County digs out after massive snowstorm Updated Feb 02, 2021; Facebook Share Hudson County continued the backbreaking work Tuesday of digging out from the massive snowstorm that dumped more than a foot of snow on city streets. While more than 2 feet fell in parts of the state including over 30 inches in Sussex County more than 16 inches was reported on the ground in Harrison on Tuesday. After most residents hunkered down at home on Monday, the sidewalks all over the county Tuesday were lively with residents clearing walkways with shovels and snowblowers. On Bergenline Avenue in Union City, shops and businesses were open while cars and jitney buses drove cautiously along the street. On sidewalks and crosswalks, the pristine snow of Monday had softened into wet gray slush.

Hudson has among NJ s lowest vaccine rates Local officials say they re distributing every dose

Hudson has among NJ’s lowest vaccine rates. Local officials say they’re distributing every dose Updated Jan 21, 2021; Hudson County had the second lowest coronavirus vaccination rate in the state last week despite being New Jersey’s most densely populated county, according to the state Department of Health. The county vaccinated just 896 people per 100,000 residents between Jan. 13 and Jan. 19, the lowest rate of any county in the state, except Mercer. Neighboring Bergen County vaccinated at more than double Hudson’s rate. Hudson County’s vaccination rate also fell from a week earlier, when 1,630 doses were administered per 100,000 residents. Despite the slowing rate, many vaccination site officials here say they’re consistently distributing every dose they have. That could indicate Hudson County simply isn’t receiving its due share of the vaccine to account for its population density.
