Alabama hospital begins $61M expansion, including new beds April 11, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail BOAZ, Ala. (AP) Work has begun on a $61 million renovation of a north Alabama hospital. Once completed, the main entrance to Marshall Medical Center South in Boaz will be relocated to the north end of the hospital, adding 125 parking spaces. WHNT-TV reports the ground floor of the expansion will house a cafeteria, coffee shop, conference room and gift shop. The second floor will house a check-in and consultation room for outpatient surgeries and the third floor will include an 18-bed intensive care unit and 32-bed inpatient section. Hospital officials said state approval for some parts of the expansion awaits state approval.

Tracy Doughty will lead Huntsville Hospital as President and Chief Operating Officer beginning on July 1. Doughty has served as Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations since 2017. He will move into his new role as Jeff Samz assumes the CEO position of the multi-hospital Health System this summer. Doughty began his career at Huntsville Hospital in 1998. He is a graduate of the University of North Alabama, earning a bachelor’s of science degree in Nursing in 1997. He later received two master’s degrees from The University of Alabama Birmingham. (WAFF) - Many people who are hospitalized in north Alabama, for reasons other than COVID-19, will now be able to have more visitors. On Friday, the Huntsville Hospital Health System updated its visitation policy. Since the summer, patients without COVID-19 have only been able to have one visitor at a time. Now they can have two. This includes mothers in labor. Patients with COVID-19 still cannot have any visitors, unless they are at risk of passing away.
