COVID REPORT: Fourteen New Cases Confirmed Today; Here’s a Number to Text to Find an Appointment Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center: Fourteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Humboldt County today, bringing the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus to 4,166. Mass vaccination clinics continue throughout the week, with nearly 1,800 residents scheduled.   Humboldt County Public Health will hold three Pfizer first-dose vaccination clinics starting Thursday, May 20, with additional clinics planned for Thursday, May 27, and Wednesday, June 2. Clinics are held from 2 to 6 p.m. at College of the Redwoods, located at 7351 Tompkins Hill Road in Eureka.  

California Will Keep Its Masking Guidance in Place a Bit Longer

Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center: California will keep its current indoor masking guidance without making any changes until June 15, the California Health and Human Services (CHHS) agency announced today.  CHHS Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly announced the continuation of the existing guidance in a virtual news conference this morning. Dr. Ghaly said California reviewed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance and decided to stay with June 15 as the date those who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to wear a mask. June 15 marks the day Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Blueprint for a Safer Economy restrictions would be lifted.

Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center: A Humboldt County resident has died with COVID-19, and 26 new cases of the virus were reported today. A total of 4,072 county residents have tested positive.   The community member who died was in their 50s, marking the third death this week and the county’s 42 nd COVID-related death. Public Health and emergency response staff extend their sympathies to the person’s friends, loved ones and caregivers.  Three Pfizer first-dose vaccination clinics are scheduled over the next three weeks. All county residents age 12 and older can sign up to receive this vaccine at MyTurn.ca.gov. Appointments are encouraged but not required.
