SWAT: The ulema and religious scholars from across the Swat district on Wednesday vowed to help the authorities curb sale of adulterated and impure food items in the bazaars.
They were speaking at a meeting with officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority here on Wednesday.
The meeting was organised to raise awareness against adulteration and impurities in food items in the district.
Led by Mufti Hamidullah, Maulana Umar Aziz and Maulana Abdullah, religious figures from different areas and seminaries participated in the meeting.
The meeting was presided over by the food authority’s deputy director, Swat, Asad Qasim.

PESHAWAR: The KP Food Safety & Halal Food Authority has seized over 350 kilograms’ substandard food items and sealed five restaurants across the province during various actions.
According to authority DG Shah Rukh Ali Khan, the food safety team inspected various food outlets in Upper Dir where they checked the SOPs compliance level in food preparation areas. Four restaurants were sealed for the unhygienic condition. They were found using banned items such as China Salt in the food. Heavy fines were imposed on the violators.
Various hotels and food-related businesses were inspected in Swat. The team sealed one restaurant for unhygienic conditions while over 100 litres of expired soft drinks were recovered from other general stores. HARIPUR: The activists of political parties staged a protest in front of the central prison here on Monday against the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran by an under-trial prisoner of the Abbottabad district jail.
The protesters, including Imran Alizai, Salim Awan and Shaikh Hasan Abdullah, insisted that the accused, who had been behind bars for over a year on the desecration charges, had committed the offence twice due to the poor administration of the jail authorities.
