NEW CUMBERLAND The Hancock County Board of Education expressed appreciation, Monday, to some of its own front-line emergency workers for their efforts to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
During Monday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Dawn Petrovich and the board applauded many of those school nurses from the county who had stepped up to assist with COVID testing and vaccine distribution during the last year.
“We listed some of the main people, but that’s not all of them,” Petrovich explained.
In addition to working at the clinics organized through the Hancock County Health Department and other agencies, the school nurses were tasked with contacting school district employees and family members, as well as others who had registered to receive one of the available COVID-19 vaccines.

Hancock County COVID-19 cases continue their decline

The news continues to be good for Hancock County regarding the COVID-19 pandemic which we have all endured. In the week ending Sunday, April 11, only six new laboratory confirmed cases have been reported.
According to the breakdown provided by the Hancock County Health Department’s report, here are the numbers for this past week.
Males in 40s: 1
According to the report, the level of fully vaccinated people has now risen to 23.6 percent of the county’s population. That amounts to 4,211 fully vaccinated residents.
Based on the combined numbers of those exposed naturally and those vaccinated, this now represents a full one-third of the county’s residents. The health department continues to recommend that people practice social distancing and wearing masks under conditions where that distancing is not possible. Frequent hand washing is also recommended.
