The Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for a full summer of events, starting with the third annual Squealin’ on the Square Friday.
This year’s Squealin’ on the Square will feature up to 10 barbecue teams battling for cash prizes and trophies in each of the food categories, which range from barbeque, chicken, ribs and more. Superintendent Tab Brockman says the event will roll into the first Sounds at Six event of the summer, and he invites everyone to attend and have a great time.
Winning teams will be determined based on presentation, taste and tenderness of entries and winners receive $250 and the coveted trophy in each meat division. The public will be able to sample to food from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

As the summer heat continues to burn up, the Hopkinsville Fire Department and Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up for the second annual Hoptown Hose Down to keep communities cool.
Beginning Tuesday, June 1, the team will have an HFD-provided pumper truck traveling to six different parks to safely spray down attendees with a water hose and nozzle throughout Hopkinsville.
Parks and Recreation department employees will be on site at each event facilitating the mobile spray parks.
âHoptown Hose Down was born last summer after creative alternatives to allow our residents to have some cool, clean fun,â Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman said.

Jennie Stuart Health has announced the hiring of Chris Jung as the Director of Marketing and Community Relations.
According to a news release, Jung will provide support for Jennie Stuart Medical Center and Jennie Stuart Medical Group in this new role. He will be responsible for both internal and external public relations and oversee marketing strategy and otherwise support and communicate the mission, vision and values of Jennie Stuart Health.
Leading public relations efforts for the Hopkinsville Parks & Recreation Department and many other City initiatives, Jung brings community and public relations experience to the position. He will assume the role of Director of Marketing and Community Relations beginning June 28.
The third annual Squealinâ on the Square BBQ Festival, hosted by the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department, will be firing up on Friday, June 4 at Founders Square.
Be prepared once again to be âswined and dined,â when barbecue ribs, chops and chicken takes center stage for the HWEA, HES/EnergyNet and Pennyrile Rural Electric sponsored event.
The Parks and Recreation department will host the in-person event this year due to the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions and decrease in COVID-19 cases in the county.
