Tuesday marks the start of a new Flying Squirrels’ baseball season, the first minor league action Richmond will see since September of 2019. It will also signify the beginning of a new era booming over the speakers at The Diamond.
That means capacity at Dunkin’ Donuts Park will be limited to 50 percent.
But beginning May 19, most state business restrictions are being dropped and capacity at the ballpark will go up to roughly 100 percent or 6,000 seats.
Then you can start buying as many tickets as you’d like.
Fans who head to a game should expect to wear a mask, except when eating or drinking, more hand sanitizer stations and extra cleaning.
When the players take the field for the May 11 home opener, it will be their first game in the park in over 620 days.
“We often judge our success on the smiles on people s faces and it s hard to do that with a mask. But you know, we re very excited. The staff is very excited,” said Tim Restall, Hartford Yard Goats president. “I know the players are in Arizona and they re getting ready to come here. Everyone is excited to get back to Yard Goats having fans coming in, watching the baseball game, cheering on the crowd and having a great time.”

Opening night sells out for Richmond Flying Squirrels By NBC12 Newsroom | April 23, 2021 at 6:43 PM EDT - Updated April 23 at 6:43 PM
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Tickets to the Richmond Flying Squirrelsâ season opener flew fast.
The May 4 game is now completely sold out. This is the 11th year in a row that the Squirrels have sold out their home opener.
The Diamond wonât be packed though as the stadium will only be filled to 30 percent capacity due to COVID-19 guidelines. That increases to 50 percent for home games after May 15.
âSellouts at a lower capacity are a little different, but it still shows that people canât wait to come to Squirrels games, and that is true for our 11th straight Opening Night,â Flying Squirrels CEO Todd âParneyâ Parnell said. âTickets are flying out of here for our first four homestands, so we encourage everyone to order their tickets soon.â
The Worcester Red Sox are the only one in their 20-team minor league to have a new stadium to show off this season. Unfortunately for them, they're also one of very few not yet selling single-game tickets or announcing the start of such sales.
