As Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced the lifting of most COVID restrictions, the pace of coronavirus vaccinations in Harford County has slowed, and local officials are encouraging residents to get the shot to meet the governor’s threshold for rescinding the state’s indoor mask order.
ABERDEEN â Governor Larry Hogan visited the mass vaccination site at Ripken Stadium on Wednesday, along with Harford County Executive Barry Glassman and Orioles shortstop legend and stadium namesake Cal Ripken, Jr., promoting vaccinations as the key step to putting the COVID-19 pandemic behind us.
âOur goal is to try to get these shots done and wind down these mass vax sites,â Hogan said. âEverybody who wants a shot â get one.â
Ripken said he was honored that the facility bearing his name was part of the statewide immunization push, but he joked that the governor didnât give him much choice in teaming up for the site visit.
As April began, Harford County had the worst COVID-19 positive test rate in Maryland and one of its highest average new case rates. As the month comes to a close, those metrics have been halved, something the county’s top health official attributes to improved behaviors and more people being vaccinated.
