May 17, 2021 HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police have renewed their appeal for information on a Halifax County woman who was last seen leaving a Sheetz store in 2009. Sunday marked the 12th anniversary of Hattie Gertrude Brown’s disappearance. She was seen on May 16, 2009 with her nephew at a convenience store just outside South Boston near the intersection of Route 501 and Route 58. Her silver, 2003 Volkswagen Jetta that was later found abandoned behind an old barn in the Southeast corner of Halifax County. State police said the car had been burned. Investigators say Brown also left home without her purse or vital medications.

Sunday, May 16 marks 12 years since Brown was last seen at a gas station with her nephew outside of South Boston. Police say on May 16, 2009, around 2:30 a.m., at the Sheetz gas station at the intersection of Route 501 and Route 58, surveillance footage captured Brown and her nephew in her silver 2003 Volkswagen Jetta.

According to authorities, she had a silver 2003 Volkswagen Jetta that was later found abandoned behind an old barn on property in the Southeast corner of Halifax County. State police said the car had been set on fire.

South Boston convenience store robbed; suspect sought

April 25, 2021 SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – South Boston Police are asking the public for help after a convenience store was robbed at gun-point Saturday night. A 911 call was received just before 7:40 pm for an armed robbery at the Apple Mart convenience store, located in the 1400 block of Seymour Dr. Police responded and interviewed witnesses who described the robber as a Black male, wearing a black hoodie and a black mask. He displayed what looked like a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the clerk. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash. He also robbed a customer of his wallet and other valuables before fleeing the store on foot.
