HKPRDHU sounding alarm over surge in COVID-19 cases

SHARE ON: (Supplied by Pixabay) On Friday, the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit joined the growing list of public health agencies “sounding the alarm” about reduced capacity in response to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases. Dr. Natalie Bocking, Medical Officer of Health said the recent spike in cases has stretched the capacity of the health unit “to its limits”.  Dr. Bocking said the organization has had to make some process changes to balance the work involved with new cases while continuing to offer mass immunization clinics in the communities. In the past two weeks, the health unit has been notified of 282 confirmed cases and more than 500 high-risk contacts. 

Haliburton at 12 active COVID-19 cases Thursday

The local health unit reported two new cases of COVID-19 in Haliburton today(Thursday). The county now stands at a dozen active cases of the virus after no new recoveries were added.  Kawartha Lakes saw three cases and three recoveries added keeping that town at 46 active cases.  And for the second day now, the health unit reported more recoveries than cases in Northumberland, adding nine cases and 14 recoveries.  Northumberland now stands at 119 active cases, including one more hospitalization on Wednesday.  The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit did just under 4,000 tests for COVID-19 in the last six days.

One COVID-19 case, one recovery reported in Haliburton Thursday

That keeps Haliburton at seven active cases with 15 high-risk contacts identified.  Kawartha Lakes sits at 22 active cases and 54 high-risk contacts after three cases and four recoveries were added.  22 new cases and seven recoveries were reported in Northumberland pushing that county up to 78 active cases and 212 high-risk contacts.  The health unit also reported three more people tested positive for a variant in Kawartha and six more in Northumberland.  The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit did 826 tests for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. 

No change to Haliburton s COVID-19 case count Wednesday

The local health unit reported no change to Haliburton’s COVID-19 case count on Wednesday.  The County of Haliburton remains at seven active cases with 16 high-risk contacts identified to date.  One recovery and two new cases were added in Kawartha Lakes standing now at 23 active cases and 54 high-risk contacts found.  In Northumberland, four new cases and four recoveries were added keeping them at 63 active cases with 30 more high-risk contacts identified over the last 24 hours.  17 more people screened positive for a variant of concern, all in Northumberland.  The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit did 758 tests for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
