NBC will not be airing next year s Golden Globe Awards amid the ongoing controversy with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. On Monday, NBCUniversal released a statement saying it believes the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform, however, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. Still, NBC isn t writing off all shows just yet. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023, the statement added.
Variety reports that NBC has announced that they will not air the Golden Globes in 2022, putting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in the tough position of either canceling the awards completely or holding it without a TV broadcast partner. Either way, they will need to quickly make changes to its membership and processes that many leaders in the industry have been demanding to ensure that NBC airs their show in 2023.

Amid growing pressure on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association from studios, stars and large swaths of the film industry, NBC said Monday that will not air the Golden Globes in 2022, putting in doubt the viability of one of Hollywood’s oldest and most-watched award shows.
Criticism of the HFPA, which puts on the Globes and has been denounced for a lack of diversity and for ethical improprieties, reached such a pitch Monday that Tom Cruise returned his three Globes to the press association’s headquarters, according to a person who was granted anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the decision.

The 2022 Golden Globe Awards have been canceled by NBC as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association tries to reform amid mounting controversy. “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” said the Comcast-owned network this morning in a statement.
