THE coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on a vast variety of services across the country. One vital service which has been badly affected is diagnostic scanning at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. With NHS staff being stretched under pressure caused by height of the pandemic, scan appointments had to be cancelled and pushed back. This in turn caused waiting lists to swell and saw waiting times extended by months. According to NHS England statistics, a total of 6,132 people were on the trust’s waiting list for potentially lifesaving CT, MRI and other diagnostic scans in October 2019.

In its Covid-19 update this afternoon, Wednesday, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that six patients have been discharged in the past 24 hours after recovering from the virus. At present, the Lovely Lane site is caring for 119 patients that have contracted the virus, with 12 patients in intensive care. This is slightly more than yesterday, when coronavirus patient numbers totalled 117, again with 12 in ICU.

THREE more coronavirus patients have died at the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust, latest NHS England figures have revealed. The update on Tuesday, December 29, revealed that sadly, four people with Covid died at the hospital trust. Two died on December 27 and one died on December 28. The total number of coronavirus patient deaths recorded at the hospital trust now stands at 340. In addition, one coronavirus patient death was recorded at the Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The patient died on December 28.
