The Government’s latest step on the roadmap out of lockdown was realised on Monday. Restrictions had been eased in April, but step three of the plans further eased rules which have been tough on businesses. It is hoped all restrictions will finally be lifted on June 21, but businesses in Halstead say they are happy to be getting back to strength following the latest easing of the rules. The hospitality industry is the sector breathing the biggest sigh of relief as customers can now be served indoors at pubs and restaurants. The White Hart, on Halstead High Street, was among the pubs which reopened to customers this week.
Bobby-Jean Gillam, 23, from Halstead, reopened her Bobby Bobs Salon on April 12. The former Ramsey Academy pupil first opened her business on The Centre, off Halstead High Street, in 2016, aged just 18. Bobby also opened a new clothing boutique in her salon. And she is delighted after seeing it become a hit with shoppers. She said: “From the day we opened, we have been super busy, with new faces wandering in, as well as lots of sales. “The response has been great and the age dynamic throughout has been so vast too which I love. All shapes, sizes and ages are loving the clothes.

Fitness instructor Jade Gooding, 35, launched online Pilates classes after the pandemic struck. Now she is modelling leggings which have become a must-have fashion during lockdown. They are made by Felsted-based firm Designed by Sports, which has seen its popularity explode. Mum-of-two Jade, from Great Maplestead, said it was her first foray into modelling profession. She said: “They asked me to do some photo shoots and I actually had really good fun. “It’s good to be able to help and work for a local brand. I really enjoyed it and I’m happy to see them being sold in local shops.”
