Three men arrested and cars seized after attempted catalytic convertor theft in Limerick

THREE men have been arrested after an attempted catalytic convertor theft early this morning.
Gardai received a report of a number of men attempting to take the catalytic convertor from a car in Murroe, Limerick, at around 12.30am.

A garda spokesman said: Whilst attempting to take the catalytic convertor, the men were disturbed and smashed the windscreen of the car and before leaving the scene in a red VW car. A description of the car was circulated to all Gardaí in the Limerick Division and a similar car was spotted in Castletroy a short time later.
Charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice have been brought against a retired garda superintendent, and four other members of An Garda Síochána at the district court in Limerick.

Shortly before 12.30am this morning, Gardaí received a report of a number of men attempting to take the catalytic converter from a car in Murroe, Co Limerick. Whilst attempting to take the catalytic converter, the men were disturbed and smashed the windscreen of the car and before leaving the scene in a red VW car. A description of the car was circulated to all Gardaí in the Limerick Division and a similar car was spotted in Castletroy a short time later.
Gardaí witnessed four men get out of the car and get into another that was parked in Brookfield Hall housing estate. As Gardaí approached, the men fled the scene. Following a short foot chase three men, aged in their late teens and early 20s, were arrested.

Gardaà have arrested a man and seized â¬230,000 of suspected cannabis herb in Limerick city in the early hours of this morning. Â
Shortly before 12.30am this morning, Gardaà from the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit stopped and searched a car in the Castletroy area of Limerick. During the course of the search Gardaà seized â¬200,000 of suspected cannabis herb. The driver, a man in his 50s, was arrested at the scene and was brought to Henry Street Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
