More than 1,000 fines were issued by Hertfordshire Police for breaches of Covid-19 laws since the start of the pandemic, figures show.
Figures published by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) reveal a total of 1,017 fixed penalty notices were recorded as being issued by Hertfordshire Constabulary between March 27 last year and April 18 this year.
Of the fines in Hertfordshire from March 27 last year to April 18 this year there were 28 for failing to wear a face covering when required, and 11 for breaching international travel rules.

There were also eight for breaking business regulations and five for holding a gathering of more than 30 people.

Criminals jailed in April include two brothers who shot a father in the face and a driver who stole a car before crashing it. The list below includes some of the offenders in our area that were put behind bars by judges during April. The offenders names and a summary of what led to them appearing in the dock are as follows:

Owais Shafiq, 32, of Douglas Avenue, Watford, and Usman Malik, 26, of The Roundway, Watford, appeared for sentencing at Huntingdon Crown Court on Tuesday (April 27).

Police are appealing for witnesses after a driver fled following a four-vehicle crash on the M1.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police s Major Crime Team said that investigations into the murder were continuing. The force attended a report of an assault on the Grand Union Canal near Broughton in Aylesbury at around 12.20pm on Monday. On attendance, a man was found with serious injuries. He tragically died at the scene despite efforts of officers and paramedics. Following a formal identification procedure today, the victim has been identified as Clive Porter, aged 63, from Tring, Hertfordshire. Additionally, a Home Office post mortem examination was carried out on Wednesday and the cause of death is currently pending. Two arrests have been made in connection with this investigation.
