NEW HANOVER COUNTY –– Hundreds of charged protesters crowded the entry to the New Hanover County Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening. Most were aware the school administration was only permitting 50 people inside the building at a time due to Covid-19 precautions. Still, they arrived in large numbers an hour early in hopes of squeezing through the door before their rivals.
Around 5:30 p.m., protesters elbowed toward the front of the building as a sheriff’s deputy ordered the group to back up. One man is in custody after a shooting took place early Sunday morning at a graduation party in Woodbridge Pointe Apartments off of Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.
Jonathan Keshawn White, 29, was arrested at Cypress Grove Monday morning in connection with the shooting that occurred around 2 a.m.
One neighbor in the apartment building where the shooting occurred said he heard the shots at the back of the building as they woke him up. Another woman said she heard a, POW, POW, POW, when she was in the bathroom and didn t realize they were gunshots at the time.
