In 1929, Cambridge High School was situated on School Street between Talbot and Somerset Avenues.
On September 6, 1935, the school was severely damaged by fire; the students were forced to move to the Seminary Building on Academy Street until the structure was rebuilt.
In 1977 the school became Cambridge Middle School, serving grades six, seven, and eight.
In 1984 the school was closed.

The remaining structure is currently the Dorchester Family YMCA.
