Detailed description is We're taking requests for maintenance projects, fix-ups, clean-ups, painting, and other small tasks for the elderly, disabled, or low-income homeowners.
Our goal is to grow young adult leaders through leadership, organizing, and direct service by assisting elderly, disabled, and low-income homeowners with small projects such as maintenance, upkeep, painting, and clean-up projects, and thereby:.

-increasing the quality of life and the ability of homeowners to stay in their homes.

-increasing the strength of neighborhoods and the community, especially among our partner congregations.

-inspiring participants to become educated advocates for the elderly, disabled, and poor to help strategize viable solutions to issues in our community..

As a key in this project's development, coordination, and integration with our organization's mission, we are in the process of accepting applications for a new internship for one young adult coming out of their year abroad serving with the ELCA's Young Adult in Global Mission (YAGM) program who will begin work in September 2014.
We feel blessed to be able to provide this opportunity through the generous support of the Montana Synod's Mission Venture grant as well as partner grants from St.
Paul and Immanuel Lutheran churches in Missoula.

This post-YAGM intern will direct Friends in Need in collaboration with our Master's of Social Work intern, office administrator, and campus pastor to:.

-form partnerships with key organizations and congregants in Missoula and create lasting relationships within our community, especially among our partner congregations, that will strengthen our community and churches.
-recruit and coordinate volunteers among our community and student population for project requests.
-field project request applications and assess project needs prior to fulfilling a request.
-create an educational component to integrate the service opportunities of Friends in Need with our already-established programming and community service goals to foster conversations about building relationships with our neighbors, serving others, and becoming advocates for the elderly, disabled, or poor.
-report to our financial partners the goals, outcomes, challenges, and successes of the program.
-research future key partnerships and grants to sustain Friends in Need and secure assistance for homeowners who may not be able to provide for certain expenses out of pocket.
