Wallace Progressive Kenpo

Monroe,

Georgia,United-states - .

Detailed description is I have been a Self Defense instructor and Life Coach for over 40 years, Serving in the Southeast US and Vancouver "Beautiful British Columbia" Canada.
On this page I have uploaded over 400 photographs - the ones I still had left - from over four decades of martial arts experience.
Most of these were posted when I was living in Vancouver BC (Beautiful British Columbia!) back in 2012 for my old students in Atlanta to download.
Guys who were 6 to 16 years old back then and now have children that age themselves.
I hope you all enjoy them.
I've enjoyed writing "caption info" for the ones I've had time to address - the others will take more time.
.
.
Sadly, the file box full of my favorite photos (and a dozen video tapes of my grandson from 1997-2001) was in the trunk of my car that was stolen in 2010 - hate that! Those were the best shots students had taken of me tournament fighting in the 80's, a file on Ken McGuire, Studio photos, Staff Photos, etc - gone for good now.
Anyway - some brief history for those who are new: Formerly as "Robert Ray" in Atlanta, I sold my school ("Robert Ray Kenpo Karate") and my "birth name" with it in 2003 to live and Serve in Columbus, NC.
My new legal name became Robert Michael William Wallace, and I began teaching William Wallace Kenpo Karate at Spartanburg Martial Arts in 2004.
.
.
My legal name given at birth was Robert Edward Ray, and I mention this because of the hundreds of historical photographs posted here from my tournament fighting days (1973-1983), along with the seven schools I operated in Atlanta over a 27 year period (1976-2003), and then my eight years of training Carolina students (2004-2012).
All throughout this photo history you will see the names “Yoo Jin Kim Institute of Karate” (late ‘70s), “North Georgia Black Belt Academy” (1980-81), “Robert Ray American Karate” (1982-1992), “Robert Ray Kenpo Karate” (1993-2003), “William Wallace Kenpo Karate” (2004-2013), and "Wallace Progressive Kenpo" (2013-present) – and therefore the reason for the “name change information” provided here..
.
With thousands of students coming through my programs in Atlanta, “Robert Ray Karate” became a well-known and highly respected “brand name” system there.
The last school I owned in Atlanta was 7,000 sq ft in Fountain Square shopping center, and when I sold it in 2003 my legal name “Robert Ray” was forced to be sold with the school as one of the assets of the business.
To facilitate the sale of my business, my attorney and I had to complete the legal process of changing my name to Robert Michael William Wallace – court appearance and all.
At the time of the sale of my school I had 427 students, an admin staff of 4, 8 Black Belt Lead Instructors, and 14 Assistant Instructors teaching those students.
I taught “under-belts” (everyone under the rank of Black Belt) for 20 years – 1974 to 1994 – and in ’94 I began teaching only my Black Belt instructor staff until I retired from Atlanta nine years later in 2003.
.
.
Over the decades I have felt highly Honored by hundreds of testimonials from my students, and have posted a few dozen clips of those testimonials under the "Notes" section of this page.
It has been extremely rewarding to me to be able to Serve humanity as a teacher and life coach.
In 1985 master instructor Kenneth McGuire acknowledged the success of the American Freestyle System I had created ("Robert Ray American Karate System") by promoting me to 6th Degree Black Belt.
I experienced an even greater Honor in January 2011 when master instructor Lee Wedlake acknowledged me as a 6th Degree Black Belt in Ed Parker Kenpo Karate by presenting me with his diploma.
And THEN an even GREATER Honor was being promoted to 7th Degree Black Belt, Senior Professor in Ed Parker AMERICAN Kenpo Karate by Mr Wedlake on 12-13-14.
I am currently working on my thesis for promotion to 8th Degree Black Belt under Master Instructor Lee Wedlake, Jr (The Einstein of Kenpo, I say) in San Antonio, TX.
I have been his Loyal and Dedicated student since November, 1993..
.
When asked for a comment about me (in 2012), Mr.
Wedlake wrote: "Professor Wallace is a dedicated martial artist and teacher.
In the almost 20 years I have known him I have seen him train quality martial artists as well as work with at-risk children.
He’s always “working on himself” and does not hesitate to go backward to go forward, understanding the transformative process one undergoes to become a better person, mentally and physically.
He is one of my highest ranking students, certified as a 6th degree black belt.
I recommend him to anyone seeking quality martial arts instruction." At this time I teach students in and near metro-Atlanta, and Spartanburg, SC.
