Chicago Mayor Lightfoot says gun violence 'trending in the right direction' amid bloodiest year in more than a decade
Mayor Lori Lightfoot made a startling claim after the Sun-Times reported a huge increase in the number of Chicago children wounded or killed by guns.
CHICAGO - Fourteen people were shot, one fatally, Tuesday in Chicago, including a man who was fatally shot in Wentworth Gardens.
He was near the sidewalk about 1 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Wells Street when a vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, Chicago police said. The 27-year-old was struck in the head and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
