10 marijuana shops get initial approval from the city of Muskegon Heights Updated Jan 20, 2021; MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI – Ten marijuana retail establishments have been granted conditional licenses by the city of Muskegon Heights, including a consumption establishment downtown. The 10, along with an 11th business focused on growing and processsing, must secure state licensing. They will bring a needed infusion of tax revenue for the city, said Muskegon Heights City Manager Troy Bell. The city council last fall approved an adult use marijuana ordinance outlining where various types of cannabis businesses can be located. The city, with the help of technical advisers, set up a process for evaluating and scoring applications that included points for being locally and minority owned and meeting state social equity guidelines.
