Through the COVID-19 pandemic, 100% Otero continued its work through virtual meetings instead of traditional face-to-face meetings, its internal groups meeting weekly online. 100% Otero is an organization developed to reduce adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs, to help make the community healthier. Adverse childhood experiences include physical, emotional or sexual abuse; physical or emotional neglect; untreated mental illness in the family; a family member that is treated violently; divorce or separation; incarcerated parent or guardian; substance misuse; death of a parent or guardian and economic hardship. "I have to say that the (COVID-19) pandemic, while a bad thing in many ways, I almost think was a good thing for us, because it was easier for people to jump on a Zoom call for an hour and not have to go anywhere," 100% Otero Co-Founder Peg Crim said. "In the past, we always thought we had to meet in person. We learned from this that we can meet virtually and it still works."
