16-year-old arrested in Lowell arson death Updated Mar 14, 2021; A 16-year-old Lowell man was charged with murder in connection with the February 10 arson death of a Lowell woman. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Alexander Gaye, 16, was arrested Sunday afternoon when a Lowell police detective recognized him as he walked on Merrimack Street in Lowell and placed him under arrest. Gaye is the second suspect arrested in connection with the Westford Street fire that left third-floor resident Em Chak dead and injured three tenants in the building, two firefighters and a police officer. Gaye’s co-defendant, 20-year-old Julian Boykins of Lowell, was arrested in a Pawtucket Street residence on March 11. The two are charged with one count each of murder, arson of a dwelling, three counts of armed assault to murder, injury to a firefighter and intimidation of a witness.
