16-year-old arrested in Lowell arson death

A 16-year-old Lowell man was charged with murder in connection with the February 10 arson death of a Lowell woman.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Alexander Gaye, 16, was arrested Sunday afternoon when a Lowell police detective recognized him as he walked on Merrimack Street in Lowell and placed him under arrest.
Gaye is the second suspect arrested in connection with the Westford Street fire that left third-floor resident Em Chak dead and injured three tenants in the building, two firefighters and a police officer.
Gaye’s co-defendant, 20-year-old Julian Boykins of Lowell, was arrested in a Pawtucket Street residence on March 11.   The two are charged with one count each of murder, arson of a dwelling, three counts of armed assault to murder, injury to a firefighter and intimidation of a witness. ....

3rd Person Arrested in Deadly Lowell Fire Last Month


The fire resulted in the death of third-floor resident Em Chak, injured three other tenants, two Lowell firefighters and one police officer. It spread to two other buildings, displacing more than 50 people.
Gaye is expected to be arraigned Monday morning in Lowell District Court. Attorney information wasn t immediately available.
The two others facing charges in connection to the fire Julian Boykins and Tanya Karadanis were both arrested last week.
Boykins, 20 of Lowell, was arrested at a Pawtucket Street residence without incident on March 11, and arraigned the following day on the same charges as Gaye, plus conspiracy. Boykins was ordered held without bail and is due back in court on April 1. ....

A 16-year-old boy was ordered held without bail Monday for his alleged role in an arson fire that claimed the life of a 77-year-old man, injured three tenants, two Lowell firefighters, one Lowell police officer and displaced some 50 residents.
Alexander Sekou Gaye was arraigned in Lowell District Court where not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf to seven charges including murder, arson of a dwelling, and two counts of assault with intent to murder. He was arrested Sunday by Lowell police. ....

Police in Lowell arrested a teenager as the third person in connection with a fatal fire on at Westford Street on Feb. 10, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Sunday night.
Alexander Gaye, 16 of Lowell, was charged with murder, arson of a dwelling, three counts of armed assault to murder, injury to a firefighter and intimidation of a witness, authorities said.
The charges stem from a fire on Feb. 10, which resulted in the death of Em Chak, injured three other tenants, two Lowell firefighters, one police officers and displaced more than 50 people. ....
