Fined just £10 for breaking in to Hexham Abbey

TWO men have been fined just £10 each after breaking into Hexham Abbey and stealing a quantity of cash.
Matthew John Burgess (29), of Wydon Park, and James Isaac Dodd (36), of Peth Head, both in Hexham, both admitted two charges of theft on February 9 last year when they appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court last Wednesday. They had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Both defendants were given a 12-month community order and fined £10 for their crimes.
They were ordered to pay the Abbey £225 each in compensation, and were ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and court costs of £200.
