2 charged with stealing car from Kroger parking lot with 2-year-old inside Share Updated: 12:06 PM EST Feb 23, 2021 WLKY Digital Team Share Updated: 12:06 PM EST Feb 23, 2021 WLKY Digital Team The Louisville Metro Police Department arrested two people they say stole a car with a young child inside.According to arrest records, police were dispatched to Kroger located at Greenwood Avenue. Once officers arrived, they located a woman who said her vehicle was stolen with her 2-year-old inside.Shortly after, officers found the woman's vehicle abandoned in a parking lot at the intersection of Lower Hunters Trace and Hess Lane.Police identified the first suspect as Penny Alexander, 45. She was identified as a suspect by the victim. When confronted at the scene, Alexander said she didn't who actually stole the car, but said she was able to provide a description. She was transported to LMPD's 3rd Division.LMPD K-9 officers were able to obtain a track from the stolen vehicle that led officers to a residence located at the 1900 block of Lower Hunters Trace. After getting consent to search the house, police say they found suspect John Williams, 45, in a back bedroom. He told officers he needed a ride and did not know there was a child inside the vehicle.Arrest records say after stealing the car Williams ran home to "change his appearance" so he wouldn't be caught. During a search inside the home, a jacket containing the victim's wallet and ID was recovered.Following Williams' arrest, officers questioned Alexander again regarding the theft. In her second statement, police say she admitted that she and Williams were dating and spoke with him about getting a ride before the vehicle was stolen. Officers also recovered stolen property in Alexander's purse.Officers have not released information on the condition of the 2-year-old yet.
