Police said they were dispatched to the Jefferson Crossing Apartments around 10 p.m. in response to multiple people being shot. When officers arrived, they found three victims — two women who were pronounced dead at the scene and a man who was taken to UNM Hospital to be treated for his injuries. The women were identified as Jessica Casaus-Lucero, 31, and Aerial Mallam, 21. The Albuquerque Police Department said it's now investigating 13 homicides in 2021. Interim Chief of Police, Harold Medina, believes frustration during the pandemic is leading to crime.
