2020 Southwest Louisiana Year in Review 2020 Southwest Louisiana Year in Review By Jillian Corder | December 31, 2020 at 8:53 PM CST - Updated December 31 at 8:53 PM LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - No one could have predicted what this year would bring the world, especially to our little corner in Southwest Louisiana. It’s said hindsight is 20/20, so maybe that’s the lesson in all that 2020 offered. While the year started like any other – with happy news of a Lake Area resident turning 106 to Mickey Smith Jr. being honored at the Grammy’s – our year took a dark turn. The name Lori Vallow made headlines as the mother of J.J. and Tylee was spotted in Hawaii with a new husband while her children were reportedly missing. The children’s grandparents are from Southwest Louisiana and begged to national audiences for information that might lead them find the kids. Sadly, after months of searching the children’s bodies were found buried on the property of Chad Daybell, Lori’s husband. Both have been charged, not with the children’s deaths, but with concealment of evidence.
