2021 Strawberry Season Off to a Good Start

Strawberries are ripe for a strong season in southeast Pennsylvania.
Curvin Nolt of EverFresh Produce vividly remembers the cold, wet spring of 2019, and the late frost of 2020 when he lost some 2,000 plants a week before harvest. He thinks this year will be different.
“The weather — temperature, moisture, and no late frost — have been just what we look for, and I’m cautiously optimistic we’re in for a very good, maybe record, year,” said Nolt, who has been farming 42 acres in Lancaster County with his wife, Lena, for the past 11 years.
Tristan, left, and Kaden Nolt pick strawberries at EverFresh Produce farm in New Holland, Pa. Their dad, Curvin, heads for the shade of the picking assistant.
