Ohio Democrats seemingly have been saved from themselves — through no fault of their own. For once, they're not being stupid about a major race. They're acting like they actually want to win a race that doesn't involve U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown. The party is coalescing around one candidate in the race for retiring Republican Rob Portman's U.S. Senate seat in 2022. And long-time Northeast Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan is exactly the type of candidate Democrats need to support if they want to start competing again in the GOP-controlled state. With his Mahoning Valley roots, strong record of supporting the working class and regular-guy charisma, Ryan would put a long-held GOP seat in play as both parties look to break the 50-50 tie in the Senate in the midterm. Ryan isn't a wokester, but it appears left-wing activists aren't pushing for an eat-their-own, ideological purity test primary.
