2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Plug-In Hybrid Launched In Three Flavors Down Under

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Plug-In Hybrid has just been unveiled for the Australian market before it starts to arrive in dealerships in August.
Mitsubishi will sell three variants of the Eclipse Cross Plug-In Hybrid in the local market. All feature a 2.4-liter petrol four-cylinder that produces 126 hp (94 kW) and 147 lb-ft (199 Nm) of torque. Supplementing this engine are a 80hp (60 kW) and 101 lb-ft (137 Nm) electric motor at the front axle and a 93 hp (70 kW) and 144 lb-ft (195 Nm) motor driving the rear axle.
All variants feature a 13.8 kWh battery pack that offers up to 55 km (34 miles) of electric-only driving.
Three distinct driving modes are available: EV, Series Hybrid, and Parallel Hybrid. The first relies solely on the electric motors; in Series Hybrid mode the 2.4-liter engine acts as a generator to charge the battery pack, while in Parallel Hybrid the engine drives the front wheels and the electric motors fire into action when required, such as when driving uphill. The engine will also feed any excess electricity back into the battery pack.
