Updated: 6:29 PM EDT Jul 4, 2021 By Russ Reed Three more Boston Red Sox players have been selected to take part in the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Denver.Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez and pitchers Nathan Eovaldi and Matt Barnes were named to the American League All-Star team on Sunday.On Thursday, Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts and third baseman Rafael Devers were named AL All-Star starters for the "Midsummer Classic" at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies.Martinez has made his fourth All-Star team and his third since joining the Red Sox ahead of the 2018 season. The 33-year-old, who is a reserve DH for the American League this year, was batting .303 with 17 home runs, 56 runs batted in and a .557 slugging percentage entering Sunday.Eovaldi, 31, has been named to his first MLB All-Star team. In 17 starts, he's compiled a 9-4 win-loss record with a team-best 3.41 earned run average among Boston's starting pitchers and 90 strikeouts. He has also thrown a team-high 97 2/3 innings.Barnes, 31, is also a first-time MLB All-Star due in large part to a career year. As the Red Sox closer, he had a 4-2 record with a 2.75 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched entering Sunday. Entering Sunday, he converted 18 of his 22 save opportunities and had the second-most saves in the American League.The 2021 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13.
