Our correspondent reliably learnt that a yet-to-be ascertained amount of money, but running into several millions, was paid as ransom before they were released by their captors and following interventions by the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, and some maritime stakeholders. In a statement by NIMASA’s Assistant Director, Public Relations, Osagie Edward, confirming the release of the abductees, he said more information would be made available to the public in due course.
