The city had been averaging slightly less than 60 cases per week for three weeks. Lorain County also saw an increase in new COVID-19 cases last week, with 1,136 confirmed cases. Zilka noted the uptick could be attributable to the New Year's holiday. COVID-19 vaccinations are underway statewide and in Lorain County. Zilka said he believes vaccinations for residents 80 and older could begin next week as Ohio moves into Phase 1B of vaccine distribution.
