Diversity is now a code name for the amount of melanin one has. Itâs not the variety of ideas represented; in fact, quite the opposite. Diversity simply means to have a color wheel of skin tones in one room at any given time. Whether itâs a neighborhood, grade school, university, church, movie, team sport, or place of employment; diversity has been redefined as a myriad of melanin mixtures at said establishments. Now, in Chicago this has been taken to another level in the field of journalism. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, approaching the halfway point through her first term, has added a colorful spin to how she does interviews. She told the cityâs media outlets that she would grant one-on-one interviews to mark the occasion, but with one condition: she will only speak with journalists of color.
