Abbey Road One: Legendary Low Strings & Sparkling Woodwinds Plug-in Instrument Rating **** 4/5 Stars Featuring 91 musicians playing in an iconic space described as ‘the world’s largest purpose‑built recording studio’, Spitfire’s ambitious Abbey Road One: Orchestral Foundations has ‘big’ written all over it. As promised at the time of release, the makers are now following up with a series of smaller, inexpensive mini‑libraries derived from the main collection. In these days of missed deadlines and delayed product launches, it’s good to see a plan come together. The so‑called ‘film scoring selections’ take inspiration from classic scores recorded in Abbey Road Studio 1, offering themed, easy‑to‑use pre‑orchestrated sections. First up are two ensembles operating at opposite ends of the orchestral pitch spectrum: Legendary Low Strings (7.5GB installed) consists of 10 cellos and eight double basses playing together in octaves, while the 6.4GB Sparkling Woodwinds brings together oboes, clarinets, flutes and piccolo in a blended high woodwind ensemble.
