The Repository DOVER – Chris Hart, historian and storyteller, will appear on Facebook Live in a Civil War Round Table event May 25, according to a news release. He will portray New York City policeman Peter Hart, who has been invited to give the eulogy of his friend Robert Anderson, with whom he served at Fort Sumter. Hart shares events leading up to and conditions during the first battle of the Civil War. The first shots of the American Civil War were fired on Fort Sumter, an island fortress in Charleston, S.C., held by federal troops. On April 12, 1861, Confederate soldiers aimed their heavy artillery at the small garrison and fired the first shots of the war. After two days under siege, Sumter’s commander Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort into the hands of the Confederate forces.
