A case against russia over allegations moscow supported rebels and ukraines war torn east. And timely hearting with sports multiple olympic and world champions are calling for athletes to unionize is an effort to unify professional truck. From around the world just how the boys we hear from triple jump legend Christian Taylor about his new initiative. Follow the Iraqi Commission for human rights 23. 00 protesters have died in baghdad and in southern areas of the countries and sunday now iraqs top shiite cleric is urging the military and police to avoid using Excessive Force against demonstrators. Dani says the government must respond as quickly as possible to their demands. The latest from the capital. In but thousands of Demonstrators Demonstrators of all ages minn women and children across the social divide they came out to Tahrir Square in the area surrounding to hear your square but they were expressing a real resolve these protesters committed to continue coming out day after day demonstrators determined to effect some kind of change they said that through their demonstrations they wanted to make sure they could help ensure build a Better Future for iraq and when we arrived at to have your square earlier in the day we didnt really know what we would find there had been reports of deaths in basra protesters being killed in basra and protesters overnight being killed in baghdad when we arrived into heres where earlier in the day we found a real jubilant crowd a real festive atmosphere not just people discussing their political concerns that really people going out of their way to express their creativity we saw plays being enacted in the streets we saw musicians performing the National Anthem and singing for others theyre trying to boost the morale of those who continued to come out a real sense of resolve from the people that we saw throughout the day many of them told us that when they hear government officials talk in the past few weeks its almost as if those government officials are in a completely different planet and yet they say theyre going to going to continue to raise their voices until their voices are heard until more is done to ensure changes Going Forward turkish and Russian Troops have been conducting a 3rd round of joint military patrols in syria its part of an agreement between anchor on moscow to remove kurdish fighters from an area turkey wants to establish as a safe zone turkey says it plans to resettle as many as 2000000 Syrian Refugees in the area has some 100 but it has more from jazz hands happening at the turkey syria border so this is what is happening now the joint patrols will be tried. Ling through the area of us which is the obviously all the way to maliki over the border with iraq they wont be able to get into the city of commission because it is not part of the sochi agree of it and because the Syrian Government troops maintains admitted to presence inside the city often. That maliki the 2nd phase would be to. Call duck those patrols in call by only around could barely tell if id been busy and this is why you have some problems because russia says that all the white bits you find have pulled out from those areas something which is contested by to turkey Still Believes of those fighters are still operating of those areas along with their weapons and this is why they would like to ensure through the joint patrols that everyone has left the latest stage turkey is intending to. Setup observation post along the safe zone the various us pressures from albuquerque all the way to words. To ensure that they asked their fighters not stagey and they come back to the areas over the border with turkey. Turkey says it will send captured i saw members back to their countries beginning monday even if their citizenship has been revoked the interior minister said i am and so lou accused western countries of a lack of cooperation he says europe is creating a new type of International Law where prisoners of war are tried where they are caught turkey says it has captured around 1200. 00 eisel fighters 287. 00 of which were obtained during recent operations in northeast syria lets bring in let a taylor shes a Senior Researcher at Human Rights Watch joining us via skype from new york thanks for being with us on the news hour so this is something that turkey said that it was planning on doing and more recently now we actually have a dates theyre saying on monday from your perspective what do you make of this decision to send eisel members back. Well i think its a very Interesting Development and im looking forward to seeing what actually happens on monday its not clear if this is grandstanding or if turkey will actually make good on its threat but what is clear is that western europe set itself up for this threat this ultimatum by refusing for months to repatriate its nationals despite repeated pleas from the kurdish led authorities in northeast syria for them to take home their citizens and lets not forget that most of the people were talking about here are very Young Children repatriation is what western europe should have done a long time ago and it should do now it should be working with turkey to make this happen and so when i think its going to happen between now and monday if turkey does go through on its promise. What is going to be the reaction from the European Countries well i imagine there is quite a lot of discussion now within europe as to what to do and i cant i dont have a crystal ball i cant predict what the whats going to happen or how this might take place will these citizens be actually loaded on to planes and will the planes be turned back will they be dumped at the gates of western european consulates and embassies in turkey well have to see how this plays out but the best option for western europe would be to cooperate with turkey rather than continue to drag its feet and and reject the pleas of authorities in the region and its own citizens for them to take back their own people and turkey is also saying that will it will send these i saw members or fighters back to their country is whether or not their nationalities have been revoked how does that work. Well it will be a test in cases where countries have signed the International Convention on statelessness if these if these suspects and prisoners do not have a 2nd nationality. Countries may be obligated to at least take them back at least under International Law whether they do so or not is another question in this could could set up some some Court Battles but again i think it is critical that western europe think this through carefully and cooperate rather than continue to stall why not one reason is of course it is much better from a humanitarian standpoint to evacuate and rescue these citizens the vast majority of whom are Young Children who never chose to be brought to isis held territory and certainly didnt choose to be born there but from a pure security perspective it is also far better for western europe to be able to monitor its citizens whether its rejected them as citizens or not they certainly were citizens and may still well be citizens far better for them to monitor these people on their own soil and if necessary prosecute of course no one suggesting that western europe has to let everyone free who comes in and they should be investigated yeah but these countries the argument that they put forward is that these i saw fighters and members just pose a Security Threat to their countries. Absolutely that of course security is an argument but look at whats happened in Central Asia Central Asian countries 3 countries alone led by kazakhstan have repatriated several 100 indeed close to a 1000 of their own nationals in recent months and were not hearing about major Security Threats there now of course we do have some concerns about what may be happening to many of these citizens once theyre back in central asia but what Central Asian countries have shown is where theres a political will there is a way i have a hard time believing that western europe with its mature democracies and its robust judiciaries and investigative systems does not have a way to absorb several 100 several 100 of its own nationals back into its system this strikes me as being an empty argument a shallow argument western europe is going but been content to out of sorts its citizens to other countries its time for that to stop for it to stop hiding its head in the sand and to do the right thing by its nationals who are suffering suffering in terrible dire conditions in camps and prisons and hundreds of children have died in these camps shame on western europe its time to act we appreciate your time with us on the aljazeera news arlette a tailor thanks for speaking to us thank you so much. As its forces have sought on a foreign drone it reportedly happened over the city of mass are in the south the provincial governor says parts of the wreckage have been recovered so the u. S. Central command has tweeted that alleges reports of u. S. U. S. Drone being shot down are incorrect and all u. S. Equipment has been accounted for in june to iran shut down a u. S. Drone saying that it had violated its airspace. Plenty more ahead on the aljazeera news hour including deepening anger against Hong Kong Police who deny responsibility for the death of a student during protests. Well look at how rival Political Parties in the u. K. Are targeting voters online ahead of next months election. And in sport one of the biggest names in Major League Soccer looks set to make a return to europe. But 1st to the u. S. Impeachment inquiry in the acting white house chief of staff has defied a subpoena ordering him to testify the Committee Investigating donald trump wanted Mick Mulvaney to explain why the office of management and budget blocked millions of dollars in its aid to ukraine in august the inquirys suspects President Trump withheld aid to pressure kiev to investigate his political rival joe biden and his son hunter biden previously denied the link lets bring in our White House Correspondent carol so it seems like his testimony was really key really now that hes skipped testifying what happens next. Yeah well hes not the only one to scare if there were a bunch this skipped this week there were 13 witnesses that were scheduled to testify this week just to showed up why democrats are so interested in the testimony from the actual chief of staff Mick Mulvaney if youll remember a press conference he gave late last month where reporters asked him whether or not there was a quid pro quo in other words did there and did the president to direct him to withhold military aid to ukraine as he was seeking to try and get investigations one of his political rivals former Vice President joe biden at the time they need seem to confirm yes he said essentially get over it we do this all the time well hes since walked back those statements and thats why democrats wanted to speak to him and this is just one of many of the witnesses that democrats been trying to speak to including the former National Security advisor john bolton and also a very close friend of the president s and also his adviser when it comes to legal issues Rudolph Giuliani but none of those men have testified the latest Mick Mulvaney he defied a subpoena absenting the democrats who say that it was very important they speak to him as they continue to build their case of impeachment donald trump and look ahead for us for next week and really in fact in just a few days time when the investigation moves into the public face. Yeah up until now this has been a closed door process that has allowed both democrats and republicans to craft arguments said to try and convince the public for against donald trump and that will be much more difficult come wednesday when the 1st of the public hearings will begin and this is something that donald trump says he has a real problem with in fact as he left the white house earlier he said this was a hoax he said hes one of the most transparent president s that there has ever been is a very transparent person but in fact democrats say just the opposite thats why they say they want to get this testimony out into the public realm so that the American People can see for themselves they allege donald trump has set a dangerous precedent of abuse in president ial powers and now with the direction of so many witnesses that he has ordered not to testify as part of this hearing theyre also now building a case for articles of impeachment based on obstruction of justice and there are indications as well that a new and very well known challenger may be about to enter of the democratic race what can you tell us about. Yeah former mayor Michael Bloomberg former mayor of new york city pretty well known in the United States hes also well known as a as a very prominent successful billionaire he would be it with appears he is set to file the paperwork potentially to make his own run for president now what does this indicate potentially that democrats may be a little bit nervous about the contenders that are out there already the president was asked about this is he left the white house in the last couple of hours heres what he had to say about Michael Bloomberg. Hes not going to get well but i think its going to hurt by the way but he doesnt have the magic to do well. Little micro will fail to spend a lot of money hes got the really big issues that the 1st no problem hes got a lot of other problems but i know Michael Bloomberg fairly well but he well fairly well well enough he will not do very well and if he did id be happy. Well one of those indications often after covering donald trump for a few years now when donald trump doesnt like summer when theyre particularly getting under his skin he gives them a name and you heard their little michael trying to be the bully if you will its one of his tactics it shows that Michael Bloomberg would be a formidable challenger but its not yet official he still has to file this paperwork but it appears that even if he doesnt he has already with the announcement of a potential candidacy seem to have rattled the president least a little bit all right kimberly thank you all the uns top court says it will hear a case filed by ukraine against russia over allegations moscow is supporting rebels in the countrys east more on this lets cross over to marry an aussie in our european Broadcast Center. Yeah thats right International Court of justice it has ruled that it does have the jurisdiction to hear this case against russia over its alleged support for separatists in crimea and Eastern Ukraine moscow had called for the case to be thrown out the ruling comes as ukraines army on the separatists withdrawal more troops from the front line on saturday the plan to exit is part of a series of measures aimed at ending the 5 year conflict thats killed more than 13000 people. Predict these preliminary objections precis by the Russian Federation the court to lax jurisdiction on the basis of article 22 of the International Convention on the elimination of all formis of Racial Discrimination. And brings us more now from the russian capital moscow. A convincing win for ukraine in the International Court of justice against russia a majority of the judges decided that the court can hear the case against what they say the russian backed separatists in the east of ukraine and also the downing of m. H. 17 and the into the Racial Discrimination towards craniums and tartarus live in an extra media which was annexed by russia in 2014 its a win for ukraine because russia was objecting very heavily against this this case because its out it has no jurisdiction and we can actually solve this case still between ukraine and russia itself but now this will be a very Strong International instrument that ukraine has against russia although the case will take a while to develop and probably will be finished only in a few years from now if russia loses the case its also possible that it has to be compensation to the victims in the east of ukraine or even in the crimea but also this is also raising questions about how this is going to affect the Peace Process that its been under way now the new president s alinsky is in power since a few months he has basically of push this peace forward process forward there will be another. Troops withdrawal on saturday between the 2 forces one Ukrainian Forces on one side and the russian backed rebels on the other side there has been some protest in ukraine against this Peace Process that this is a capitalization to russia but there is some optimism
