Familys anguish the mother of george floyd stores and makes an emotional call for justice. And sympathy and solidarity spreads across borders and across continents as george floyd reaction for his global. Protest is in the u. S. Breaking curfews in cities across the country its now the 8th day of demonstrations following the death of George Floyd National job National Guard soldiers have been deployed now in 29 states as incidents of arson and looting punctuate otherwise Peaceful Demonstrations at least 5 people are reported to have died in the unrest while many protesters are still on the streets of the u. S. Capitol washington d. C. Rallies were held around the white house a day after President Trump had crowds forcibly removed by police. And in the state of oregon thousands of protesters marched on to one of portlands busiest roads to stage their protest as you can see they lay face down on burnside bridge with their hands behind their backs for 9 minutes and remembrance of george floyd that time reflecting how long a Police Officer forced his knee into floyds neck. And in los angeles theres been a standoff between police and protesters that is still continuing the demonstrators sat on the ground and refused to move to spite violating the citys calf you these are live pictures from that area right now and many of those protesters have now been arrested well our correspondent rob reynolds is in los angeles and can speak to him now rob its now more than 3 hours after that curfew came into place its now the 3rd night of that curfew and it seems people are determined to protest despite the arrests that weve been seeing. Determination on both sides to see you can see behind me here with this is just the boundary of the city of West Hollywood its one of the 88 separate municipalities within Los Angeles County and looked there and if you look closely you can see a sign that says citywide curfew in effect until sunrise and if you also look closely you can see some of those gnash california National Guard troops there and forcing that curfew keeping people out of this city of West Hollywood unless they have legitimate business now the other area that you were referring to thats not so far away and its a scene that we have seen over and over again over the past couple of nights people are being arrested for staying out after curfew in many cases these are not people who are doing anything else wrong they are perhaps making a point that that of civil disobedience in some cases but were not seeing people like in this scene that you described to me earlier who have been wrecking stores or anything of that nature these are people who are continuing to protest and theyve made their decision to stay out after curfew again the police are getting increasingly skilled in their tactics of finding these pockets of demonstrators blocking off their exits and moving in a resting some of them others flee or disperse into the into the neighborhoods surrounding there but it is as i say situation on which in which both the protesters who remain on the streets which are relatively small numbers the stasia and the police who are in great numbers both. Very determined at this time if your inlaws rob as weve been saying there has been some looting some violence over the last few days in l. A. And some soldiers from the National Guard have been deployed there i wonder do you get the sense that police are being very clear about their distinction between the people who are vandalizing illusion property versus the Peaceful Protesters that weve been seeing them arrest. Yes and no when people are actually vandalizing property or breaking in to take things without paying for them police will arrest those people sometimes theyve been not very efficient at being on the scene and arresting those people we saw on over the weekend in santa monica that there was a lot of stealing going on with very Little Police intervention but as far as groups of Peaceful Protesters moving back and forth for example on the main avenue in Los Angeles Hollywood boulevard the famous place that everybody sort of they were not impeded by police unless there was something going on in another area and Police Needed to stop the protesters so. I i see the police they have these. Weapons that fire projectiles made of sort of foam rubber which sounds pretty weak but if you get hit by one its going to hurt a lot they are not using like live ammunition we did not see any tear gas today so there are there are new its a nuanced situation but definitely as far as once a curfew goes into effect then theres more of a 0 tolerance policy while the sun is shining and the curfew is not into effect police sometimes keep a very low profile unless something starts to go wrong for example if a group of protesters tries to block a major highway or something of that nature then police will move in but weve had more than 2700 in arrests altogether in the Southern California area over the past couple of days and most of those have been for curfew violations and would have been seeing those arrests actually even more of them. Take place right now i want to take us back to a bit of where this all began actually earlier tonight we saw some of these protesters who were peaceful and chelsea of the police saying that that they were Peaceful Protesters getting down on the ground there putting their hands in the air and then the standoff seemingly developing between the protesters and the police who were deployed rob this is now the 3rd night i believe of this this 12 hour curfew 6 pm to 6 am and weve now seen so many days of protests in since wednesday do you get the sense that the the protests will continue and that this curfew will also remain in place in the coming days. I think that authorities are anxious to lift the curfew but they may not be able to do so immediately because there would certainly be some serious repercussions if they were to lift the curfew and then there was a break of lawlessness im glad you mentioned getting back to the the foundation of all of this because sometimes the stuff here we talk about police and demonstrators and arrests and we dont even mention george floyd or the other africanamerican men who and women who have died at the hands of police that is what the demonstrators are demonstrating about and weve here we hear of a wide variety of opinions about the lawlessness that. Has involved a small minority of the people on the streets from those demonstrators but. I would say that they are peaceful for the for the most part but very passionate and theres a a strong sort of red thread of anger that runs through all of these protests i dont think that the protests are going to end any time immediately for one thing we still have in we still have a virtual economic collapse in this country so people dont have jobs normally if people wanted to protest over the course of a weekend they would then need to return to their place of employment or their school their university in order to you know not lose their jobs or lose their grades in this case people who feel very very strongly about these issues of social and Racial Injustice probably have no better thing to do that they can find in their lives at this moment under covert 19 rob and that for us live on the streets of los angeles thank you very much i will be following the. Developments very closely while protests have now spread to more than 140 cities across the United States including in washington d. C. The capital President Trump has come under heavy criticism for his handling of this crisis in particular as you can see the forced removal of demonstrators from outside the white house so he could have a 1st up as a nearby chance well our correspondent she had tansey is in washington d. C. She have new is still not very far from the white house weve seen this build up of soldiers arriving talk us through whats happening. Its been really really quiet and this this fence has been really really really something thats come dollar where this decided foot fence that was erected overrides. At the calming effect is because it means that the that the the combat troops effectively were lined up would you can probably see that the reflection of the light on the shields are being kept away from the protesters in the end what weve discovered of the last several doubts is the only thing that provokes the protests is into some sort of rage is when the when the police and the call of the military police they came forward they saw pepper spray in the crowd wait for the flash bangs for suddenly with their Willie Mccool so enraged the crowd in fact thats exactly what just happened we had complete pieces of it 100 people left to actually listen to the kids to like 20 years old where it is like it was happening here. I think theres actually to really assess what happened a moment ago that after complete tranquillity here without also people it. Is sad to me for say a great a small group of police came here regard to the phones forwards from the crowd or a couple of the peace in the course of this is a small group of people again 181920 year old boys. You know they see that they go whoa and i saw crag Water Bottles Water Bottles in a way thats often you know cool projectiles but were talking really bushells against one of the most well Armed Police Forces military Police Forces in the ouse so the idea that this is somehow a capital offense is a little bizarre house to resign so if you want to belittle it dont threaten. But youre please come forward thats just too much to take. Someone said ransom again maybe 3 people got a bit angry one of them scaled up traffic light and started to begin to sort of take it apart but then it was ever all the other protests like dont do this dont give them the pretext to make this even worse than it already is because the protesters now they dont need much to stocks lashing out at the protesters and anyone in the way so i think that theres a real understanding of that and so i think what was happening that was what youd call a disagreement on tactics i get the sense that the pastor was being led away might have been someone who was trying to throw bottles and things and im basically he was surrounded room immediately and was was moved away by the crowd because they know you dont want to give these folks an excuse to come forward it is a menacing presence now because theyve switched off the floodlights so you can barely see them except for the reflection of the coming forward again though now why they coming for thats an interesting question what goes on in the strategic minds of the park police say that theyve decided now to suddenly come forward when the last time they did that they provokes. They provoked this that it might be coming out. So this stance is relatively silent. But were wondering now whether they might be heading out surround or whether again i was just talking to a retired Police Officer and he was saying its had games switching off the floodlights coming through whatever. Oh my god. Oh my dad. I dont give a fuck if i want to lose i want to see me do this i dont give a fuck is wrong. Im trying to think through. Time i do want to ask you about this extraordinary show of force weve been seeing today from the military not only way you are standing right now but we also saw a huge build up at the very symbolic Lincoln Memorial today and how are people taking it all is it just inciting more anger amongst the crowd oh is there a sense that people do want to continue protesting want to do it peacefully to get their message about behaved. As a seriously that they not the 3 clearly off we will show you that this is this is a point this is more you know youre completely right but people are cleaning up we would say i remember cleaning up this isnt really well organized right just like she does with ricks. Hold it about right you sure the well being of everyone whos here 2 and theyre all cleaning up the bottles as we speak it was a one shot who was and walked away i mean thats good t. V. So you wonder whether that clip will be played and loosely on the television because it was not support its exciting one completely on representative of everything thats been going on here because. Im because the police are volusia because the police of it over there no provocation no provocation complete peace and this is just a quick blip for the 100 people who really got you could you could feel your trauma you can see how younger and thats another thing about having does happen here if you suddenly see pictures in the coming hours of them coming forward with long wooden sticks they apparently have without shields these are kids these are kids who are angry these are. Terrorists or of thing like these these these are kids are teenagers these are teenage kids who are angry who are you know making their voice peacefully in the movie so if anything does happen just because we did a bad out in mind who exactly is out 2 here right now but right now it does we did get that sense that librium had been reached but tried but how does photo opportunity the day before they had their share of strength the tribes able to tweet but they were able to calm things. Armstrong as we can tell around d. C. Things are quiet now we just saw 100 kids outside the word just on the help of this column so just drove over there dont allow that to happen because the only thing that search things on us is when they do this when theyre doing what theyre doing right now which is cabin stewards and. I mean were really going to do it were going to knock down the slopes. And all they were truths. She had written to the. Correspondents will be coming back to she have for all those developments throughout the evening it is currently just after midnight in washington d. C. And as you can see very near the white house offense has been erected the police are there with their shields and there is a group of 100 for a relatively peaceful protest as our correspondent she had tons will bring us all the latest for now thank you very much shihab do stay safe while the mother of George Floyds daughter has made her 1st Public Statement choking back tears as she paid an emotional tribute to the father of her child describing him as a good man and calling for justice he. Will graduate who will never walk. If its a problem shes behaving in a day she does not remove. And. If jurors because they want justice for you. Well john hendren is covering this for us in minneapolis and he spoke to my colleague Darren Jordan just a short while ago. Roxy washington was the one who really did the most poignant speaking there and she said that george floyd has left a daughter who will never know her fathers will never have another graduation never seen never will never see or walk down the aisle and she choked about justice for george what in his familys been very clear about what that is his brother chance talked about this yesterday and that is they want all 4 of the officers who arrested george floyd to face charges now one of them already has derek show bond is charged with 3rd degree murder and with manslaughter but they want all 4 of those officers to be charged and i just want to give you a little look around here daryn at the the scene here if you look back there under those tents at that gas station you can see that there are people speaking a lot of listeners and then there has been music here theres food theres been even dancing at points over here there is a flower memorial that you can see where people have laid for him and then here is the somber sight behind me. And that is where george floyd spent his last moments it was right in front of this couple food store. And that is where the real memorial has been meanwhile the state of minnesota has filed a civil rights challenge against the Minneapolis Police over the death of george for lawyers the governor says it will mean an investigation and 2 years of police procedure. I think the thing im hearing from the protesters is were no were not watching and we dont care what you say we care what you do so today as a step towards that deconstruction of stomach racism the Minnesota Department of human rights is filing a commissioners charge of discrimination to launch a civil rights investigation into the Minneapolis Police department the investigation will review n. P. T. s policies procedures and practices over the last 10 years to determine if the department is utilized to semi minatory practices towards people of color well police in new york have begun making arrests after the citys calf you came into effect that thousands of people remained in the streets despite its about half year there has been nursing and over the past few days and people are now being ordered to go home with that caffeine is that remained in place until sunday when the state Governor Andrew Cuomo has criticized new york citys response to those protests he said police havent done enough to stop the nucingen vandalism and he has offered to send in the national god to help to restore order. The n. Y. P. D. And the mayor did not do their job last night i believe that 2nd you have 38001 a. P. The people it is the largest Police Department in the United States of america you 38000 people and protect property use the Police Protect property and people look at the videos it was a disgrace but new york city has met bill de blasio says the deployment optional god would only hyson tensions we do not need nor do we think its wise for the National Guard to be in new york city nor any Armed Forces Im going to tell you why this is really important we
