But it's what didn't happen that the 2021 Legislative Session might be most remembered for. For 128 days, dozens if not hundreds of legal and political minds in South Dakota discussed, deliberated and acted in response to a pair of voter-backed ballot measures to end marijuana prohibition in the state. And despite countless hours of time logged by Gov. Kristi Noem's staff since Nov. 3 to stall a new era of marijuana laws in the state, not to mention the work put in by legislators and lobbyists both in support and opposed to the governor's anti-marijuana positions, South Dakota is right where it started when lawmakers made their pilgrimage home from Pierre this week.
