April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention month and unfortunately in Arkansas, child advocacy centers are seeing an increase of abused children.
"In 2019, we served 7,000," said Elizabeth Pulley, executive director of Children Advocacy Centers of Arkansas. "In 2020, we served over 10,000."
"We have seen an increase in child abuse," said Lisette Yang, Children Protection Center senior forensic interviewer. "So the awareness I think is there, as far as educators and some community members, but we are not reaching many kids because when they are at home, the abuse is happening, and we are not able to tell them how to stay safe and how to tell."
