Assistance from international legal advisers sought over the distressed ship

Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena stated that assistance of international legal advisers will be sought to seek compensation for the damage caused to Sri Lanka from the shipwrecked MV X-Press Pearl.
He added that damage assessment work with regard to the vessel is being carried out.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing into the oil slick which was observed on the sea surface in the vicinity of the distressed vessel MV X-Press Pearl.
All Ceylon Fisheries Federation National Organizer Ratna Gamage alleged that a formal programme is yet to be implemented for fisherfolk who lost their jobs due to the fire that erupted on the ship and the damage caused to the sea.
