'Massive' cockfighting ring in Orem uncovered, thousands of chickens found in home

Detectives serving a search warrant at a home in Orem this week discovered thousands of chickens believed to be bred for cockfighting. 
They arrested Jose Arturo Meza Basan after searching the home, according to a probable cause affidavit. 
A bedroom in the basement contained "hundreds of baby chickens and sharpened metal spurs that are tied to the legs of male chickens in order to inflict more danage to another chicken when fighting," according to the affidavit. 
Throughout the entire property, thousands of chickens were found, "some with their spurs cut down in order for the blades to be attached." A chicken's spurs are horn-like protrusions on the leg, used by the animals for fighting and self-defense.
