AU: New apple and pear varieties continue strong consumer growth In the four weeks to 27 December 2020, the take home fruit category has grown 4.7 per cent in dollar sales and declined -5.1 per cent in volume sales, versus same time year ago. Apples grew 17.7 per cent in dollar sales and declined by -9.9 per cent in volume sales, driven in part by a 30.6 per cent price increase when compared to the prior year. One of the key contributing factors to the volume sales decline was a decline in buying households and average buying occasions. Other apples, consisting of new varieties, such as Envy, Eve, Jazz, Kanzi, etc., saw the strongest volume sales growth in the last four weeks compared to the prior year, while Red Delicious and Fuji declined the most in sales.
