The first of three modified S-70 helicopters will be formally handed over to the Austrian Air Force on 15 March. The Austrian Air Force is about to receive the first of three modified Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk helicopters. The helicopters were bought second-hand from Jordan for €60 million in 2020. Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner will attend a 15 March ceremony at Langenlebarn airbase some 50km northwest of Vienna, the Austrian MoD announced on 12 March. Procurement of the S-70s began in August 2018, when the Austrian government announced that they would be added to a fleet of nine S-70A42s. By January 2019, the government had committed funding to buy the three Black Hawks plus 18 light multirole helicopters to replace a fleet of 21 ageing Aerospatiale Alouette IIIs.
