Authorities ID 25-year-old man killed in east Birmingham shooting Updated 9:43 PM; Today 9:42 PM A 25-year-old man was shot to death Monday, May 17, 2021 in the 7700 block of Sixth Avenue South. Facebook Share Birmingham police on Tuesday evening identified the victim as Tavarius Hampton. He was 25. The shooting happened at 12:27 p.m. Monday in the 7800 block of Sixth Avenue South. Officers arrived to find Hampton critically injured and asked for a rush on the medics. Hampton was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Sgt. Rod Mauldin said the preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was seen leaving a bag on the porch of a residence when he was approached by the occupants of the home. He said he did not know what was in the bag.
