VICTORIA -- Indigenous leaders in British Columbia are calling for immediate police reform after three members of a small Vancouver Island First Nation have been shot by police in less than a year. A Tla-o-qui-aht woman was shot multiple times Saturday when police responded to a report of a disturbance at a home in Ucluelet, B.C. The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) is investigating the shooting. The Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation identified the woman Tuesday as a mother of two and said she remains in critical condition. The shooting occurred less than three months since 28-year-old Tla-o-qui-aht man Julian Jones was shot and killed by the RCMP on Meares Island, north of Tofino.
