BAME nurses still facing three times higher levels of discrimination

Nurses from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds who work in the NHS in England continue to face much higher levels of discrimination at work compared with White colleagues, latest data reveals.
The 2020 Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) report showed that the proportion of BAME nurses reporting being discriminated against by managers and colleagues was almost triple that of White nurses.
“Unless efforts to tackle racism are stepped up the NHS will continue to pay a high price in terms of the morale, wellbeing and retention"
Helga Pile
Overall, the levels of discrimination, bullying and harassment experienced by BAME staff, whether from colleagues or the public, were worse in nursing than any other professional group.
