Banner University Medical Center Tucson Banner Health is one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States, serving more than 8 million patients across six states in the Southwest. It has countless providers, all of whom are racking up normal levels of stress, combined with pandemic levels of stress. THE PROBLEM More than ever, providers are at risk for burnout, which can impact patient care and the lives of caregivers. To focus on provider burnout, Banner Health launched a multiyear strategy to support provider wellbeing called Cultivating Happiness in Medicine, or CHIM. The strategy includes a comprehensive approach that addresses burnout and improves wellbeing from operational, leadership, organizational, individual wellness, community and second-victim perspectives.
