These days we get surprised by anything that is going on. But i think for me, what is concerning of course is it is a little bit of this, you know, what are politicians in politics for . Is it their personal interest, their ego, gaining more powerfor personal interest, their ego, gaining more power for themselves . And this seems to me a bit of a case of again politicians perhaps not necessarily putting the country Public Interest first but more about their own personal interest, and thatis their own personal interest, and that is the thing that worries me about this story. I think it is a reflection of what is happening in a lot of parts of europe now, which is the far right coming in to strength, the far right coming in to strength, the anti immigration views, the more nationalistic protectionist attitudes that we are seeing across europe and other parts of the world. I suppose the importance of the size of italys economy is one of the biggest in europe, the ripple effects if the coalition does fall apartand effects if the coalition does fall apart and investors start to get nervous about turmoil, it could have quite a rapid knock on effect throughout the eurozone. Indeed, and in fact when people do look outside of europe, and we have to think about europe how it is together a very big economy, but with all of these Turbulent Times and very many countries and with brexit adding to all of that, this isnt going to be feeling investors with confidence. Lets turn our attention to this newsweek article. These fires are some of the worst that have been seen, and the brazilian president coming infora seen, and the brazilian president coming in for a lot of criticism. Yes, i think this criticism here because there is a slight concerned that he is not doing enough to prevent them from spreading or taking any action against it. But we have to think about what is happening in the world. This is all about human action, if you like, and in fact it is notjust the amazon that has been burning. We have seen an uptick in places where them wouldnt have necessarily accepted asa wouldnt have necessarily accepted as a fires. We have fires in siberia, in greenland, last year in california there was the worst wildfires on record for the state of california. So this is a lot to do with climate change, im afraid, which is a lot of human action behind it, but particularly in the amazon, of course, deforestation, and humans are starting fires for deforestation purposes. Very, very sad, i think, deforestation purposes. Very, very sad, ithink, situation. Particularly when we think of so many other parts of the world who are desperately trying to plant trees because we know this is good for the climate, and here you have just got vast quantities, square miles being destroyed. Very, very sad. Indeed. I think lets miles being destroyed. Very, very sad. Indeed. Ithink lets have miles being destroyed. Very, very sad. Indeed. I think lets have a look at the New York Times now. Dato. This is really a story about oui dato. This is really a story about our times. The fact that facebook can be collect in data even through apps that you are not on the facebook app, but it is running in the background, somehow you have given it permission, and they are trying to make it easier to see which apps are tracking what you are searching for or data you are putting in and then feeding that back to facebook. I am all for transparency, and this is a little way forward in terms of giving some transparency about what data facebook and others are doing it as well, what data they are collecting about you. I fear about this is that this is going to mean us, we, as individuals are going to have to ta ke individuals are going to have to take some action. I know myself, when i have some other warning, the privacy terms have been updated on something that i am using on my phone on my computer and i sort of look through and scroll through these pages of terms and information, do i do anything about it . Usually i dont because i am in a hurry and want to move in. This is one of the biggest things i fear about this. It will still rely on the individual to actually want to bother to take some action. Providing it is easy enough and i know we havent been able to test it out to see how easy it is, if it is easy for the user to actually delete some of these links, i think that is great. But of course it doesnt take away from the fact that facebook is still collecting stacks of data about you when you actually use their apps. I think people are becoming more and more conscious of it and more aware, but as you say, you get that cookies warning now for every website and you just click ok, fine, generally, dont you . The thing is this, the reason it is so interest being facebook are doing it, they are relying on the date of targeting adverts which are a vital of income. That is a big revenue source. How will they then continued that if they cant get this data to feed you the correct ads . But im sure that they will find a way around it. I doubt very much if they have gone into this slightly and said, well, we mustjust do the right thing here. Im sure that they have got another means of collecting data and satisfying those companies that want to use their advertising. There is a lot of interest, a documentary out which i think is a netflix offering, and speaking of netflix, it has competition in the form of apple with its new services and its new investment in programmes. This is being outlined in International Business times. This is apple really kind of staking a claim on netflixs territory, isnt it . It is, but it is also securing its revenue for the future. This is a classic case of apple building up, like many other companies are doing, this ecosystem around us. And trapping us in, so we get caught up, and if their sales of iphones are falling, this is a sure way of making sure people still have apple at the forefront of their mind. Forthe apple at the forefront of their mind. For the user, for the consumer of television and programmes, they are offering some great things. They are offering some great things. They are talking about adding something important to the culture and to society come through and do Something Like that. That would be amazing. Perhaps that is just a little bit of sales talk. Signing up some big names. This new show they are talking about, the morning show, withjennifer aniston, reese witherspoon, steve correll. There is the cost of per episode would make it more expensive than game of thrones, i think. It more expensive than game of thrones, ithink. Fascinating, and it isa thrones, ithink. Fascinating, and it is a look behind the scenes of what goes into a show. It is a look behind the scenes of what goes into a showlj it is a look behind the scenes of what goes into a show. I wonder how you would feel about Something Like that for you the prospect of that is absolutely terrifying. Can you |magine . Is absolutely terrifying. Can you imagine . Lets move the atlantic. The case against paper straws, Plastic Straws are very much out of the times but this article questioning how environmentally friendly are these paper straws that are touted as a green alternative . know, and again, it seemed a bit sad to have moved away from one aspect where we are doing bad things to the planet and some of us have seen the tragic stories of what Plastic Straws do to the ocean and animals and things like that, so it is sad. Paper straws have also got some bad footprint because it had to be manufactured to, we also have the metal straws that apparently are now a hot item to steal. When you get one of those in your cocktail, you are more likely to take it home then leave it in the glass. They are now being thought of as not environmentally friendly. I suggest try and give up straws completely. Actually they have a statistic, all the focus on straws they make up just 0. 0 the focus on straws they make up just0. 0. 25 the focus on straws they make up just 0. 0. 25 of plastic that ends up just 0. 0. 25 of plastic that ends up in the ocean. Any plastic that ends up in the ocean is dreadful, but may be the focus should be on bigger things than straws. Well, i know, but all these Little Things add up and if we said that about many things that we look at, we say, thatis many things that we look at, we say, that is not important enough, he doesnt have a big impact. It is collectively attacking all of them that will make the fundamental difference. To me, it is governments and they have to go after the manufacturers of these things in the first place, and put the onus back onto those businesses. first place, and put the onus back onto those businesses. I think you are right. It needs to be done on scale. Thank you very much. And thank you for watching. That wraps up thank you for watching. That wraps up the news review. Stay with us. Plenty more still to come. We will see you soon. Hello there. It looks like were going to see a return to some summery weather finally. High pressure establishing itself over the near continent will send southerly winds our way and well tap into that warmth, which will be building over the continent. Today, though, it looks like we still have some weather fronts, weather systems to contend with, which will bring wet and windy weather, mainly to the north and the west if the uk. Of the uk. You can see this deep area of low pressure slowly making inroads as the day wears on. But we start, for many of us, with higher pressure, plenty of sunshine around this morning. One or two showers will develop ahead of this rain band for Northern England into wales and the midlands, the odd heavier one but it turns wet and windy for northern ireland, much of northern and western scotland. Gusts of wind 50, maybe 55mph in exposure and a breezy day further south and east. But better chance of seeing sunshine here with 22 or 23 degrees being the high. During wednesday night, that weather front moves southwards and eastwards, tending to fizzle out as it does so. Some patchy rain across central portions of the uk with blustery showers following on behind, generally a clear and a dry night across the south and east. You can see double figure values for all starting thursday morning. So, warmer than its been the last few nights. So, weve got a north south divide on thursday. Low pressure to the north, High Pressure building to the south. That weak weather front will continue to fizzle out but well see further fronts pushing to northern ireland, parts of scotland and Northern England through the day thanks to that area of low pressure anchored to the north of scotland. It will be quite windy here, but further south and east, again, better chance of seeing lighter winds and more sunshine. And well start to tap into the warmth on the near continent, 2a, maybe 25 degrees, but the high teens further north. Now, this area of High Pressure really starts to establish itself over the near continent. Southerly winds dig in and start to push those weather fronts to the north of the uk. So, therell be a gradual process on friday where we will see the clouds thinning and breaking and the rain diverted towards the north of scotland. Elsewhere, variable cloud, but some good spells of sunshine and were really tapping into the warmth over the near continent with temperatures in the high 20s celsius in the south and east, even the low 20s further north. Into the start of the weekend, it looks like those weather fronts will be away from the uk. So most places should be dry with variable cloud. Plenty of sunshine. Winds coming to the south or the south east. A much warmer day for all. The low to mid 20s celsius in the north, perhaps high 20s in the south east side, so its certainly warming up across the board with temperatures probably best across the south and east. It looks like this fine spell will last, for many of us, into next week. Good morning.
